Navigating your way through the aged care system is one of the challenges faced by many older Australians including people living in the Pilbara.
Advocare is inviting older Tom Price residents and their families and carers to a series of information sessions this week. These sessions will help older people and their families find answers to some of the common questions posed by the aged care system as well as providing information and support on other age-related issues such as elder abuse.
Advocare is part of an exciting national Aged Care Navigators trial, funded by the Australian Government Department of Health, to assist people to access and understand the aged care system. Advocare’s Specialist Advocates – Aged Care Navigators will be able to provide information on a range of topics at the session, including how to access aged care services, what services are available, how to register with My Aged Care, and what supports services are available to older people living in the Pilbara region.
The aged care system can be a daunting experience and the Aged Care Navigators can help guide people through how to access aged care now and into the future.
Advocare will also be proving information about elder abuse prevention and, if you are experiencing elder abuse, how you can access support.
The community information session will be held at the Coles Shopping Centre, Central Road, Tom Price on Tuesday 22 September from 1pm – 2:30pm.
Older people are welcome to attend with family members or a carer. Resources for attendees to take home with them will be available on topics including empowering people, how to care for your assets, answers to common aged care queries, direct care plans and restorative care.
