Karishma joined Advocare as Corporate Accountant in October. We took a moment to find out more about her and why she was drawn to work with us.
I joined Advocare as Corporate Accountant in October. I have previously worked in the health and aged care sectors, and in the not-for-profit sector in accounting roles. I hold a Master’s degree in Accounting from Kaplan Business School, Melbourne.
Knowing I wanted to work in an industry that supports the rights of older people needing care, my search led me to Advocare. It was exactly the job I was looking for – not just the role itself but because of its vision.
When I’m not reviewing financial statements, you will find me volunteering at religious centres. I am passionate about being a caregiver to my elderly parents. As a teenager growing up in my native India, I regularly volunteered at the religious organisation RSSB, and soon became fascinated by the volunteers called sevadars, who provide help and support to older people. Having now lived in Australia for more than seven years, I’m so pleased to be part of the Advocare family.
Every day I continue to learn something new about volunteering through our volunteer visitors scheme we run, which helps me to stay connected to my roots. I am humbled and privileged to be a part of this organisation.
