We are a small organisation with a dedicated team to maintain our vital work.

We are currently seeking volunteers to join our Community Visitors Scheme (CVS) as part of a new formal volunteering program so that you can contribute valued skills, life experiences, time and expertise to help us achieve our goal of a community where the rights of people are supported and respected.

What is the program about?

The Community Visitors Scheme (CVS) is an Australian Government funded program established to promote links between older people living in government subsidised aged care facilities, people receiving home care packages living in their own home, and the wider community. The object of the Community Visitors Scheme is to provide one-to-one volunteer visitors to older people who are socially isolated or lonely, and whose quality of life would be improved by positive engagement and companionship.

What is Advocare doing differently?

Advocare volunteers visit older people in their own home or in a residential aged care facility and assist them by capturing stories and significant moments in their life. This may be done via photos, written stories or oral stories. After all, we all have a story to tell.

How long do I have to give?

We ask that volunteers give a minimum of 1 hour per fortnight. You or the client may prefer a weekly visit, and we work with both the volunteer and the client to arrange a suitable time.

All visits are scheduled between 8.00am – 5.00pm, Monday to Friday.

Where do I visit?

CVS volunteers visit clients across the Perth Metropolitan area either in their own home or in residential aged care facilities. We don’t expect you to travel far to visit clients so we endeavour to match clients close to your home, where possible.

What difference can I make?

Visiting someone who is isolated or lonely can make a great difference to their lives and gives them something to look forward to with your visit. Sharing stories and having companionship can reduce stress, anxiety and depression. It is also an opportunity for people to pass on their stories to family or loved ones.

Do I get anything for volunteering?

Advocare have honorarium payment for volunteers per visit, this can be discussed in more detail with the Volunteer Coordinator. Training and Induction are part of your volunteering experience with Advocare, with ongoing support provided.

Giving back to your community and making a difference to someone’s life is very rewarding.
