Elder abuse research launched on World Elder Abuse Awareness Day
Wed, 15 Jun 2011Advocare Inc. is pleased to announce the completion of a significant elder abuse research project to coincide with World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on 15 June.
The research, which looks at the extent of elder abuse in Western Australia, is significant due to the increasing size of our older population.
The challenge for government and welfare agencies is to ensure there are adequate resources available to respond to the issue effectively.
It is hoped that the results of this research will inform elder abuse prevention practices for many local agencies and allow key agencies working with elder abuse to improve their responses and address perceived gaps in current processes.
The report, titled Examination of the Extent of Elder Abuse in Western Australia – A Qualitative and Quantitative Investigation of Existing Agency Policy, Service Responses and Recorded Data, was a collaborative study between Advocare Inc. and the Crime Research Centre at the University of Western Australia and was funded by LotteryWest.
